Directions to Sherwood Forest
If you use www.maps.google.com , you can type in Sherwood Forest Faire as the destination in the "Get Directions" function and it will take you to the camping entrance on Highway 290. This is pretty darn close but do not go in there if you are not camping. You cannot get to the main parking lot from the camping entrance.
From Austin (41 miles from central Austin)
Take Highway 290 East past Manor, Elgin, and McDade. Turn left on Columbus Street/Loop 223 near McDade. There is a flashing yellow light there. After 0.3 miles, turn right on Old Highway 20. Take Old Highway 20 about 6 miles to the Sherwood Parking lot. This is the easiest way to turn left across 290. However, you can also drive all the way up to 290 and turn left on Old Potato Road, which borders Sherwood. We should have a sheriff directing traffic there so this should be ok. This way is faster. We have the 5 miles, 2 miles, 1 mile to Sherwood signs twice. First to the Loop 223 turn in McDade and again going to Old Potato Road
From Houston (123 miles from downtown Houston)
Take Highway 290 about 110 miles West toward Austin. Don't forget that 290 turns after Brenham (about an hour away). Drive past Brenham, Giddings, and Paige. Once you pass Highway 21, slow down. Sherwood is about 1.7 miles past Highway 21. At about 1.5 miles, you'll see 2 gigantic billboards next to each other, which mark the camping entrance. If you're not camping, then keep going another tenth of a mile or so then turn right on Old Potato Road. About a mile down, turn right on Old Highway 20. You'll see the Sherwood Parking Lot in about a quarter mile
From Bryan / College Station (68 miles from central College Station)
Take Highway 21 west; turn right on Old Highway 20, just before you hit 290. Follow Old Highway 20 about 2 miles and you'll reach the Sherwood parking lot
From San Antonio (119 miles)
Take I-35 to Austin and follow Austin directions
From San Marcos (72 miles)
Google maps says to take I-35 to Austin then 290 but 71 to Bastrop then 21 to 290 might be faster. Take a left (west) on 290 from 21, go about 1.7 miles, past the 2 big billboards which mark the camping entrance, turn right on Old Potato Road, then right on Old Highway 20, and you're there |
