Knights of the Grail - Joust Games and Spear Throw

The Knights of the Grail is a program created by the knights of King Richard the Lionheart, providing equine therapy to military veterans (as a 501(c)3 nonprofit). Riders are taught to canter and gallop while wielding lance, spear, and sword. Members of the program, both Lord Knights and knights-in-training will compete in joust games twice daily. Knights of the Grail have also performed at the Sherwood Forest Summer Camp. The knights ride and train most weekends at the Sherwood Forest fairgrounds on Highway 290 between Austin and Houston.
Their motto is "manere tranquillitas et facite epic agraphum” or “Keep Calm and Do Epic Stuff."

See Knights of the Grail demonstrating their skills in morning and afternoon Joust Games. All knights-in-training will work through levels of difficulty in the morning show, and the daily winner will compete with the Lord Knights in the afternoon show. Points will be accumulated throughout the season, and the winner will be eligible to be promoted to a Lord Knight of the Grail, pending the agreement of the Existing Lord Knights.
The program will also host a Spear Throw Game just inside the front gate, over the bridge to your right. All proceeds will benefit The Knights of the Grail’s mission, to bring healing and a sense of community to its members, and to promote equine therapy as powerful tool against depression and other mental illnesses.

Theatre of Fools

Mar 2 – 24 – New this Season!

Theatre of Fools is the comedy team of Lloyd Brant and Rosie Cole. Inspired by Shakespeare’s coxcombed medieval fools, these masters of improv bring you on a hysterical joyride with their absurd theatrics. For their finale they teach a man from the audience to cluck, strut, and lay an egg on stage. When not at home in the far distant land of Minneapolis, Lloyd and Rosie can be found touring in their caravan with their pet chicken, Mable. Theatre of Fools’ mission is to develop a reimagined theater infused with circus, magic, and carnival. The fairground is where theater was born. Pictures of jugglers and magicians have been discovered inside Egyptian pyramids. Shakespeare was influenced by the fairground entertainment of his time. They believe that every age of theater can find rebirth by returning to the fairground stage. Please help give a BIG WELCOME to Theatre of Fools as they roost on the Greenwoode Theatre on our first 4 weekends this season.

He also performs fire eating, fire blowing, transferring, fire spinning, and a finale that leaves a literal toadstool-shaped cloud above your head! He is also known far and wide as a contact juggling specialist. This is an art form that cannot be conveyed in print, but must be experienced – a dance of balance, grace, and line of motion, making crystal balls appear to float across the Pyrojuggler’s body like a surrealistic dream. Children shall smile, grown men will giggle like school girls, women will swoon; and all shall be surprised and delighted! Find this flame –flinging daredevil at the Washing Well Stage Mar 22- 31

Tobias the Adequate: Artisanal Gibberish

Limited Engagement

Tobias has been touched by the muse of poetry! Well, perhaps “touched” is not the right word.
We’ll let him explain: A spirit of inspiration is called a “Muse”.
If your spirit of inspiration confounds you, that would be a Bemusing Muse.
And if you felt hard done because of it, that would be Bemusing Muse Abuse.
Listening to someone laboring under such a spirit might be Bemusing Muse Abuse Confusion.
And we’re hoping that this act will bring Bemusing Muse Abuse Confusion Amusement...
You can see what you may have to put up with. Join him for some of this madness, won’t you? You’ll find Tobias maundering while wandering the lanes of the forest, and sometimes hi-jacking a small stage.

The Villagers of Sherwood

Sherwood is home not only to adventurers and royalty, but also to everyday people, like crafters, merchants, travelers, and peasants. You’ll find lively characters in every boothe and tent full of arts and wares and fine foods. You’ll also find common forest folk milling about the village. They will be glad to share news with you, give you directions and advice for things to do, and will invite you to join in the fun they have planned for the day. This year the Villagers of Sherwood will frequent the Villagers Square, not far from Tomato Justice and the Gypsy Encampment, where they shall share games and gossip, and sometimes even sing and prance about. They shall also dance at the Maypole near the Jerusalem Café, and all who would dance are welcome to join!

Tree of Life

"Did you just see that? That tree just moved"  A walk in the woods would be so much better if the Trees could talk. For 17 years the "Tree of Life" has talked and walked, and much more. Through artistic presentation the Tree of Life expresses the symbiosis between Human kind and Nature.  On Sherwood's 4th and 5th weekends the Tree of Life will be roaming the grounds near the Jousting Arena and the Lionheart Tavern.
